It was a cool, quiet morning in the city of Dubai and I was sipping chai near the lake of the JLT area.
Tall skyscrapers and squawking of terns filled my vision and ears.
I found myself observing the fascinating patterns on the glass facades of the skyscrapers. Each individual square seemed to have it’s own pulsating energy, and yet, together, they formed a unified whole!
This resonated with my stay in Dubai of 20+years.
This city is a melting pot of nationalities (around 200) where everyone lives together in harmony, celebrating their similarities and differences of cultures and creating a family away from family.
I divided the canvas into 20x20 squares to reflect people of various cultures, backgrounds, religions and nationalities. The colors were chosen to create a mood of peace and harmony.

Dragonflies are symbolic of change, transformation and self-realization.
It is a reminder to reflect on our inner light, and shed more joy in our life. Here, a bright red dragonfly caught my eye amongst the contrasting green foliage.
The buyer of this painting remarked that the captured moment brought forth the carefree, happy childhood memories of chasing dragonflies in her garden.

"An iteration of Robert Indiana's famous LOVE sculpture stands at the heart of University of Pennsylvania's campus.
In this painting, LOVE stands tall, strong and steady through the seasons year after year. The Cherry Blossom tree in the background is seen across the university's campus. The tree is known to represent many things - love, friendship, happiness and wisdom. It is also symbolic of renewal and a fresh start. The breathtaking blossoms that are short-lived reflect the beauty and transient nature of life, reminding us to enjoy every moment.
This iconic sculpture has inspired many couples to declare their love for each other. This commissioned painting made a perfect wedding gift for one such couple, both Penn alumni. The groom proposed to his (now) wife in front of it!"

My inspiration for this work came on a trip to the beautiful green state of Kerala, India that brought me face to face with a woman who had seen many moons. The sheer joy for life that emanated from her face and entire being seemed to come from a space from deep within, a space of wisdom. A blank canvas board was brought to life as my brushed and paints merrily captures this point of joy and wisdom.

Ganesha is the elephant-headed Hindu God of new beginnings. He is worshipped at the start of a new venture to clear obstacles and pave the path to success.
In this painting, he is portrayed with four hands in a traditionally reclined posture. He is happy and content mood, blissfully reclined on his royal couch.
The lotus in one hand symbolizes the purity of our souls and the modak, an Indian sweet, symbolizes the sweetness of a realized soul. The axe removes all obstacles, external as well as inner, in a devotee’s path. And one hand blesses the viewer.

A palette of buff titanium, raw sienna, dabs of cadmium orange and process cyan and mixing white applied with a palette knife create the soft and earthy look of the stone wall. The addition of iridescent gold and pearl white complete the look of this nurturing environment.
Lemon yellow with tiny dabs of process cyan make the perfect greens of the joyful, sprouting life.
