This artwork marked the beginning of my experiments of adding copper to my work. The canvas was cut to reveal the beautiful copper sheet stuck underneath the canvas. The colours represent Gandhiji's search for truth - leaving the darkness and walking towards the light.
Mahatma Gandhi was an Indian lawer, social activist and writer who lead the nationalist movement against the British rule who emplTruth'oyed nonviolent resistance to lead the successful campaign for India's independence from British rule. His autobiography is called 'My EXperiments with Truth’

This sketch has been inspired from a scene that greeted the artist during her wanderings in the world heritage city of Galle, Sri Lanka. She stumbled upon this dignified, elderly, Sri Lankan lady bent over a pillow with pins stuck in them. On a closer look, one could see that the pins were holding the threads of dozens of bobbins hanging over the side of the pillow. The lady was focused on the task in front of her and her eyes did not waver even as onlookers stepped closer to see the beautiful lace that was being created. Bobbin lace or pillow lace is a traditional Portuguese art and was brought to Sri Lanka by the Portuguese when they occupied the country in the 16th century.
The artist has captured the skill, passion, focus and dignity of the Sri Lankan lady beautifully and detailed it with the bobbins hanging on the side of the pillow. This black and white sketch pays a tribute to working women who continue to live their passion into their twilight years with grace and dignity

This painting talks about the beautiful relationship that two women can have. Two women who experience each other as a kindred spirit and understand each other completely. They share an almost sacred space between them that time and distance can’t destroy. They are able to share their deepest secrets, worst mistakes and their most vulnerable moments without feeling judged or threatened. An indeed precious bonding.

My inspiration for this work came on a trip to the beautiful green state of Kerala, India that brought me face to face with a woman who had seen many moons. The sheer joy for life that emanated from her face and entire being seemed to come from a space from deep within, a space of wisdom. A blank canvas board was brought to life as my brushed and paints merrily captures this point of joy and wisdom.

The scene is set on the beaches of Fujairah, U.A.E.
The barren range of the Hajjar mountains creates the backdrop under which the faint outlines of a fishing village can be seen.
The fisherman sits engrossed in the work at hand - repairing his fishing net, the most important tool of his livlihood.
The rhythmic sounds of the sea waves crashing on to the seashore and the squawking of the surrounding birds added to the audio-visual impact of this scene that grabbed my attention and compelled me to paint it.
